Biography

If you like your women spicy, then go no further than Sandra Denton, the lovely lady who put the Pepa in the mid-’80 rap duo Salt-N-Pepa. The Jamaica-born and Queens-raised beauty is simply summed up by the title of the group’s debut, Hot, Cool & Vicious. After growing up in New York, Sandra lived in Utah for a year, where her largely white friends taught her all about rock and metal, before she headed back to NYC and went to nursing school alongside Chery “Salt” James. The two went together like, well, salt and pepper and armed with their diverse musical knowledge embarked on a hugely successful career in rap. Chery converted to Christianity and the group broke up in 2002; however, they reunited for the 2005 VH1 Hip Hop Honors program and have worked together in a variety of projects since. But while she's much more well known for her music, Pepa's acting career is nothing to sneeze at. Her early work was music-centric, like the Yo! MTV Raps inspired cop movie Who's the Man (1993) and MTV Films' "sex, bugs and rock n roll" musical, Joe's Apartment (1996), but Sandra's skills shone brightest when she moved to premium cable on half a dozen episodes of HBO's prison drama Oz. As Andrea Phelan, the supervising CO of Unit B, Sandra kept the felons in line but never gave men anything they could emancipate their units for. Still, seeing her sexy body had to put a pep in the convit's step. Pepa seasoned The Surreal Life's fifth season, sporting a thong and bikini top for a wild west inspired strip act in the third episode. Shake it like a salt, err, pepper shaker! Sandra went on to have her own reality show, Let's Talk About Pep as well as a cooking show with Salt appropriately titled Cookin' With Salt-N-Pepa. She appeared alongside fellow 90's rapper Queen Latifah in Last Holiday (2007) fought fin-demons (but died on a Citi Bike) in Sharknado 2: The Second One (2014) battled Salt in an episode of Lip Sync Battle (2015), and gave a testimonial in Adam Sandler's Sandy Wexler (2017). Our eyes are burning like they've been pepper sprayed from constantly staring at the sensual Sandra "Pepa" Denton.
