Review

Lemony Snicket creator Daniel Handler penned the script for Rick (2003), a jet-black comedy about a pair of cubicle jockeys engaged in an increasingly desperate battle to outdo one another. The eponymous Rick (Bill Pullman) clearly has the worst of it: Not only is the much younger Duke (Aaron Stanford) ahead of him in the corporate chain of command, he’s also in hot pursuit of Rick’s foxy teenage daughter (Agnes Bruckner). The miffed dad decides to pull out the stops by taking a contract out on Duke’s head, but his plan backfires spectacularly thanks to a meddlesome colleague (Sandra Oh). Curtiss Clayton’s film is mostly a battle between alpha males, but the irresistible Bruckner is definitely worth a look; although she doesn’t dress down, she does boast a body that’s worthy of rapt attention.
