Review

A day in the life of a decaying housing project and the disaffected teens that live there is documented in Regarde-moi (2007). 23-year-old director Audrey Estrogo shows us this urban jungle from two different perspectives--male and female-- by splitting the story into two halves, each of which takes place over the same 24-hour period. On the boys' side, Yannick (Paco Boublard), his athletic pal Jo (Terry Nimajimbe) and Jo's younger brother Khalidou (Jimmy Woha Woha) are all preoccupied with that most universal of adolescent concerns: getting laid. On the girls' side, we meet Julie (Emilie De Preissac) and Fatimata (Eye Haidara), for whom the question is not quite so simple. It's this adolescent angst that makes Eimilie cut off her long blonde hair in front of a mirror, and while the resulting haircut is pretty ugly, her bare baguettes are still mighty fine.
