Recruits (1986)

Cops aren’t always funny, but they can be a crack-up. Think of the Keystone patrolmen, or the boys in blue in evidence in Recruits (1986). It ain’t easy being the police chief of a sleepy California burg. Especially not if the city fathers deliver you with what seems to be an untenable ultimatum: Rid the town of criminals within two weeks, or pack your bags and go. What’s a beleaguered lawman to do? Why, press your traffic cops into service tracking and arresting villains, and enlist a cadre of civilian recruits to cover traffic duties. But can criminal minds and meter maids be expected to steer clear of one another? Hilarity is under arrest!
