Review

Puccini for Beginners (2006) is an urbane comedy about a love triangle with a lesbo angle or two. Elizabeth Reaser stars as a single New Yorker with a penchant for porking her own kind. Then she finds herself getting a taste for the other white meat, cut in the shape of Justin Kirk, and starts wondering just which way it is she swings. She gets romantically involved with Justin, but things get mighty queer when she finds herself attracted to his girlfriend, Gretchen Mol! Maybe her homo mojo isn't a no-go after all! With a straight choice between Justin and Gretchen, Liz does the grown-up thing—refuses to choose, choosing instead to string along two sweet young things! It's a Woody Allen-ish comedy of New York neurosis with some lesbosis thrown in, and with both Liz and Gretch to scratch your itch, Puccini for Beginners is sure to give you a woody.
