Post-Emmy Game of Thrones: Will There Be a Prequel Series?!

It isn't exactly news that HBO would like to keep the Game of Thronesseries running as long as possible - particularly when you consider that it'swon 39 Emmy Awards as of yesterday, breaking the record for most wins by a scripted series. The show has a cult following, and not many people are excited for the imminent end with season eight.

But Game of Thrones, much like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, has a great deal of literature and backstory before and beyond the initial series, right? Well, there are two answers. The first, according to author George R.R. Martin, is yes.

"I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to Game of Thrones, so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more," he told T.V. Line at the award ceremony. But according to showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, the answer is, err, no.“It’s a great world, I’m sure there will be other series set in Westeros, but for us, this is it.”

That doesn't necessarily mean a prequel series is out - it simply means someone else would take over. And as we know from the current six seasons in existence, there are many, many naked people in Westeros for us to gaze upon. Just ask Matt LeBlanc, who told E! reporters that Emilia Clarke's performance might rekindle his interest in watching the show.

“I saw the first season then fell out of touch with it and then I guess that was when she started getting naked. So I need to catch up," he said.

Well. Glad we're all on the same page.
