Poltergeist (1982)

Poltergeist (1982) is a ghost story updated for its time. It basically the haunted house premise, but with a modern touch, in that the host of ghosts enter the lives of the living through their TV set. That’s a pretty great premise, for what object do we trust more than our TV set, and to have it turn against us isn’t only scary but an act of betrayal that makes the story that much more impactful. Add some freaky special effects, like the girl getting sucked into the TV, and a curse supposedly attached to the making of the movie, and you have some great entertainment value here. Then there’s JoBeth Williams, who late in the film, steps out from the shower and lounges about in her underwear when she is groped by horny ghosts. That makes our poltergeist hard!
