Shot in both London and Los Angeles, Played (2006) stars co-writer Mick Rossi as a small-time thug who gets set up for a heist that goes to hell. He ends up doing eight years in the clink, refusing to speak to his girlfriend, Joanne Whalley, in favor of concentrating on making license plates. (Clearly Mick is crazy, but prison can do that to a man.) When he's finally sprung from the hoosegow, he does what all madmen do and goes across the pond looking for revenge on Vinnie Jones, the crooked detective who landed him in the joint in the first place. Hired by a pal's dad to hunt the bastard down, Mick keeps running into trouble—from detectives Bruno Kirby and Anthony LaPaglia, from a mysterious Gabriel Byrne, and from Val Kilmer (who, though he has a reputation for being real-life trouble on sets, went without a trailer in order to keep the low-budget picture afloat).
