Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) is a mind-blowing, nose-swelling freakout of a film. Based on Patrick Süskind’s novel of the same name, Tom Tykwer’s R-rated thriller features Ben Whishaw, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Alan Rickman, and the bare breasts on Karoline Herfurth! The period piece chronicles the rancid rise and fragrant fall of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Whishaw). Born in a fish market and raised in a leather tannery, Grenouille develops a superhuman sense of smell. When a day trip to the city leads him to the perfume shop of Giuseppe Baldini (Dustin Hoffman), Jean-Baptiste finds his life’s calling. He soon becomes the most esteemed scent-maker in all of 18th century Paris. Ooh la la! In time, the diabolical dude also finds that distilling the essence of gorgeous young women (who are squeezed to death) provides his bottled odors with powers beyond that of any other water de toilette. As such, we get to see the petite peaks and side buns on Jeanne (Sara Forestier) as she gets pickled to perfection by Grenouille. Later, Natalie (Jessica Schwarz) bares her three Bs before getting offed by Jean-Baptiste. From there, Perfume escalates into a sumptuous, scent-sational epic that climaxes with one of the most spectacularly populated naked orgies ever captured on film. As the writhing mass of totally naked people pile up, an exceptional extra (Cristina Solà) shows off her left breast when her character gets busy with a Bishop. Amen to that! Suffice it to say, when it comes to nudity, Perfume does not stink!
