Japanese director Kaneto Shindo (Kuroneko, The Naked Island) delivers what is quite possibly his most chilling tale of horror with his tale of murder and revenge in 14th century feudal Japan, Onibaba (1964). The film centers around a middle aged woman, played by Nobuko Otowa, who lives with her daughter in law (Jitsuko Yoshimura) in a meager hut in the countryside. The two eke out an existence by murdering any samurai who happened to get lost in the dense forest surrounding their home, stripping them of their belongings, disposing of the bodies, and selling the stolen goods. When their neighbor Hachi (Kei Sato) returns from the war, he finds himself drawn into a love triangle with the three women. One day, Hachi and the daughter in law consummate their relationship with the older woman is off searching for more men to kill, only to stumble across a mysterious samurai (Jukichi Uno) wearing a haunting demon mask. After killing him and taking his possessions, she finds herself drawn to the mask which she decides not to sell. Little does she realize that the mask possessed by a demon who will take over the body of whomever is wearing the mask, and will ultimately lead to the undoing of everyone around her. For a film made in Japan in the early 60s, it's substantially more skin filled than American films of the same period. Nobuko Otowa bares her breasts in several scenes, while Jitsuko Yoshimura does her one better and shows off her boobs and bush! Onibaba will give you an Oniboner!
