Review

The cold war was never so full of thrills and chills as when being fought by suave, sanguine, lady-killing British Secret Agent 007, James Bond. Some people will say that Bond is only a fictional character, originating in the novels of Ian Fleming and never becoming any more real than a two-dimensional flicker upon a motion-picture screen. Such naysayers should be roundly shunned, and a great place to avoid them is at any screening of Octopussy (1983). One of the fastest moving and explosive of the Bond series, Octopussy pits the bloody cool operative of Her Majesty’s Secret Service against an exiled Asian khan, a psychotic Russian general, and a glamour-puss smuggler lady whose mixed intentions--she either plans to help James or to slay him--only enhance her seductive powers and those of Octopussy the movie.
