Enter Elvira, a Kansas-born coppertop who had the distinction of being the youngest showgirl in Las Vegas history. After dancing at go-go bars across Sin City, Ms. Peterson enjoyed a fling with The King, Elvis Presley, and set off to start an acting career in Hollywood.

Sporting her given name and natural, flame-red mane, Elvira starred as--what else--a showgirl in The Working Girls (1973). Just twenty-two, she flaunted her stunning face and even more stunning, all-natural, soon-to-be-skinfamous boobs while performing the world's longest striptease.

After breaking out her frighteningly nice jack-o-lanterns in Jekyll and Hyde...Together Again (1982) and being turned down for the role of Mary Ann in the Gilligan's Island TV movie, the busty, lusty babe was offered a position as the hostess of a B-movie show, Movie Macabre, in Los Angeles. The character of Elvira was born, and millions of guys began a lifelong love affair with the gorgeous goth.

The pinnacle of Elvira's carnal career was the horror-comedy classic, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988). All camp, huge black bouffant, and huger pale white honkers, the mouthwatering mistress used her giant jugs as props, twirling nipple tassels and busting out of prison--literally. She even slipped a nip!

Naturally voluptuous knockout Cassandra Peterson re-skinvented-herself as ghoulishly super-gazonged goth babe Elvira and debuted her creation via the late-night horror series Elvira’s Movie Macabre on this date in 1981.

After flirtations with Italian rock stardom and a stint in the comedy troupe The Groundlings, Peterson answered the call for a new horror hostess at Los Angeles’s channel 9, KHJ-TV.

Donning a black bouffant wig and a tight-fitting, super-low-cut black dress, Elvira sprawled out on a red Victorian count and lovingly wise-cracked her way through Movie Macabre’s crackpot cinematic offerings.

In short order, the show was syndicated, Elvira snagged all sorts of endorsement deals, two big-screen adventures ensued (Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and Elvira’s Haunted Hills) and Halloween was rendered forever hotter.
