Retro skin rules this week on DVD and Blu-ray as PJ Soles bares more than her soul in the extended Blu-ray cut of Stripes (1981), Joan Severance fires her bra as See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) hits Blu-ray, and Clara Bow delivers the skintage nudity in the silent-era classic Wings (1927), nude on Blu-ray.

Also nude on Blu-ray, sink your teeth into some lesbian Euro-vamps as Jean Rollin's Shiver of the Vampires (1970), The Nude Vampire (1970), Lips of Blood (1975) and Fascination (1979) get the HD treatment.

Pollyanna McIntosh stars in the week's only notable nude release, The Woman (2011), where she bares her McIntosh apples and full-frontal furburger as a feral female.

If you think that free love and freer funbags were a skinvention of the 1960s, then you've got another think coming, mister. Sexual liberation has been swinging since the early days of the 20th Century, when Josephine Baker made bananas dance with her topless "banana dance" and Clara Bow bared boobage in the first-ever Oscar winner, Wings (1927).

The provocative doc Legendary Sin Cities (2005) chronicles Shanghai's heyday as a center for skinternational sin, but you don't have to step into a time machine to experience the intoxicating decadence of the city once called "the Whore of Asia".

You just have to get your ass to Manhattan, where on January 25 Shame co-stars and masters of burlesque Calamity Chang (right) and DeeDee Luxe (left) proudly present Les Fleurs de Shanghai, a new revue that combines bump n' grind with the exotic romance of Old Shanghai.

Ian Christe is king of the metalheads. We know it's hard to hear, headbangers, and we're sure your record collection is appropriately trv, but this guy wrote the book. Literally. His book Sound of the Beast: The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal, first published in 2003, contains over 400 pages of hard-rocking history and has been translated into German, Czech, Finnish, French, Japanese, and Spanish, among others (more on that later).

Ian has since translated his incredible knowledge of all things heavy into the popular Sirius Satellite Radio show Bloody Roots, where every week he "preaches a lesson in heavy metal heritage, with inside stories and tons of rare music from all of metal's many subspecies," and Bazillion Points Books, which published Swedish Sensationsfilms earlier this year (read our interview with author Daniel Ekeroth here) and next year will bring Heavy Metal Movies to life with our own Mike McBeardo.

Oscar loves showering attention on young actresses in their debut films, and older actresses who are capping off a lifetime of achievement, possibly because he's a bit of a pervert. From Clara Bow to Marion Cotillard,
it's been proven time and again that the Academy doesn't discriminate when it comes to nude roles, and these intergenerational idols are no exception.

At 10, Tatum O'Neill made history as the youngest person ever to win an Academy Award for her role in Paper Moon (1973), a record that stands to this day. Tatum made something else stand at attention seven years later, when she appeared all grown up and filled out in Circle of Two (1980). Though Tatum's tits have been absent onscreen recently due to her offscreen private struggles, we're anxiously awaiting the day her rack comes back.

For the man who prefers his T&A aged like a bottle of fine wine, we have Jessica Tandy, who didn't show her candy on screen until after she had Mr. Oscar safely nestled between her golden globes. In 1994, seven years after becoming the oldest woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, Jessica shed her inhibitions for a nude beach romp in Camilla. Her performance was living proof that it's how old you feel (and the clothes that you peel) that counts.

The bonerrific tradition of Hollywood nudity goes way, way back to the uninhibited 1920s, and in honor of the upcoming Academy Awards (as well as Mr. Skin’s Anatomy Awards, of course) we here at Mr. Skin have rubbed ourselves raw scouring the archives for the very apex of Academy Award-winning nudity.

As tit turns out, the very first Best Picture, Wings (1927) , is also a breast picture thanks to legendary wild child and original “it” girl Clara Bow. In the film, Clara stars as a sweet young thing involved in a love triangle with two pilots, both of whom are sent off to fight in World War I. In one scene, Clara is undressing in front of a mirror when her soldier boys barge in, and as she scrambles to cover up, we get a tantalizing glimpse of her topless. It's highly unlikely that the nip slip was intentional, but thanks to the miracle of celluloid, Clara's "it" tits have achieved immor(t)ality.

Which Decade is Dirtiest?

Apparently it's not just Mr Skin who remembers Clara Bow's nude scene in Wings.

A new website called Vintageerotica.com offers over 1500 hours of hardcore porn grouped by decade beginning with the year 1910 and going up into the Reagan years.
