Mondo New York (1987)

Mondo New York (1987) is a pseudo-documentary with a faithful cult following that love its grimy vibe. The film manages to capture a very specific time and place in the New York City of the late 80s, before Giuliani came and cleaned up the city and the real estate drove out all the real sketchy people. Mostly. But don't expect a whole lot of mainstream, tourist friendly stuff in this celebration of The Big Apple's oddball artists. Instead, viewers watch as Shannah Laumeister wanders the streets of New York to bear witness to the weirdness that only The Naked City can offer. From basic stuff like street comics, all the way to cockfights, a fake Chinese slave auction, Ann Magnuson literally beating a dead horse, and Joe Coleman biting live mice in half before lighting firecrackers all over his sweaty body, this expose of NYC's underground art truly has some insane stuff to behold. But there's only one performance artist who will have you holding your hot dog, and that's Karen Finley. Now a professor at NYU, we must profess we're pretty impressed by her career in showbiz, which included singing with Sinead O'Connor, playing a doctor in Philadelphia (1993), and even ending up involved in a Supreme Court case that she ended up losing. But it's Karen's cans that are most impressive in Mondo New York. As part of her show, she performs a neat trick where she strips down and covers her body in paint and confetti. That lets us see the best part of the female form: the funbags! Karen's got some big, bouncy ones that have Mr. Skin ready to perform anytime she wants! Those titties will make you mondo horny watching Mondo New York!
