Men

Men (1998)

Brief Nudity

Review

Other than one year, what’s the difference between the romantic dramedy Men (1997) and the romantic dramedy Men (1998)? Well, the former film showcases the fabulous flesh on Sean Young, while the latter teases audiences with views of a semi-clad Juliette Lewis. Not to be confused with the period piece Little Men (1998) starring Mariel Hemingway or the horror movie Men (2022) with Jessie Buckley, this R rated flick also goes by the title Some Girl. It centers around siblings Jason and Claire played by real-life brother Giovanni Ribisi and sister Marissa Ribisi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Brie Shaffer. The emotionally unstable characters are in their 20s and not sure what to do when it comes to love — and lust! While Jason pines after an older woman (Pamela Adlon), Claire tries to get noticed by a cad called Chad (Jeremy Sisto). But he’s nailing her best friend April (Lewis) behind the back of her milquetoast boyfriend Neal (Michael Rapaport). In the midst of all this, we get a very brief glimpse of Ms. Lewis’s perky peaks when she’s in bed with her beau. It’s an uplifting image but, considering all of the affairs in this story, you’d think we’d be treated to more substantial skin. The movie includes Adam Goldberg, Kristin Dattilo, Glenn Quinn, and Ms. Lewis in a barely-there brassiere! We get why the film’s title went from Men to Some Girl, but maybe it would have been more attention-grabbing if it was re-named to something like Some Girls!
