An early offering from Kinji Fukasaku, director of Battle Royale (2000), Lovers Lost (1982) is the tale of a young man working and living upstairs from a tea shop facing Osaka's famed Dotonbori river and the lives of the other young people living in the area. Highlights include a frisky topless dance from Yuki Kodate and a long, dimly lit sex scene starring Keiko Matsuzaka’s boobs. This film won six awards, including the Japanese Academy Award for best actress and director.
