Review

Louder Than Bombs (2015) might be about a recently deceased war photographer (Isabelle Huppert), but it's not about war or bombs at all, for that matter. In the wake of her death, reported as a car crash but mostly likely a suicide, Isabelle's husband Gene lives with their angsty teenage son Conrad and his older brother Jonah, who's home in support. Conrad doesn't know the nature of his mom's death yet, and the three men each have to confront how different their memories and perceptions of her are. As a photographer always on the front lines, Isabelle was an enigmatic and elusive woman that left her family wondering if they really knew her at all. While Jonah is at home, he manages to have a little extracurricular, not-quite-as-morbid fun with Rachel Brosnahan, who bares her breasts when the two are in bed! Most people who have seen this one can attest that it's a pretty insightful drama flick about coping with death. The flick is really well-directed, written, and the performances are all decent as well. It's a really sad story overall, so don't be surprised if you find yourself weeping while wanking at some point. It's also deeply inspiring, with a theme about finding light in seemingly overpowering darkness. It's not an easy task, but the director does a good job of making his point in fresh and unique way. Louder Than Bombs may not get the blood pumping to your nether region, due to its dark content, but it's still a worthy watch!
