Writer-director Michael Crichton’s Looker initially tanked at the box office but, courtesy of the early 1980s boom in cable TV and home video, this sex-drenched, PG-rated sci-fi parable evolved into a cult classic.

That Looker showcases Susan Dey nude -- smack between her stints on The Partridge Family and L.A. Law -- has much to do with Looker’s on-going place in the hearts, minds, and other organs of the ’80s generation.

Looker first turned up in theaters on this date in 1981.
