Based on a novel by Canadian author Alice Munro, the made-for-TV drama Lives of Girls & Women (1994) tells of an aspiring novelist who blossoms physically and emotionally in her rural Ontario hometown. Del Jordan (Tanya Allen) furiously prepares for her career as a writer by collecting notes and poems about the quirky inhabitants of her Canadian outpost. The young girl simultaneously develops an odd obsession with sex, denying her longings for men even as she begins to develop her womanly curves. Allen perfectly inhabits the role of her budding protagonist, even flashing some flesh as she splashes in a swimming hole during one moment of Edenic bliss.
