Biography

One of the founding members of Destiny’s Child, LeToya Luckett definitely has a pair of great…lungs. After hooking up with Beyoncé when she was barely a teenager, the two singers, along with Kelly Rowland and LaTavia Roberson, hit the Houston club scene and moved on to opening for the likes of Dru Hill and SWV; they were officially signed to a label as Destiny’s Child in 1997, when LeToya was 16 years old. Their sophomore album, The Writing’s on the Wall was released in 1999, but when the video for the hit single “Say My Name” was released, LeToya and fellow group member LaTavia Roberson weren’t in it. Thus ended her Destiny’s Child career. But don’t feel bad for LeToya, because she was still only 19, and had a lot of success still to come. (And, also? She still got the Grammy for her vocal work on “Say My Name.”) Her self-titled solo album LeToyadebuted at number one, and was certified platinum. Videos for two of the album’s singles, “She Don’t” and “Torn,” are sultry urban come-ons, with LeToya showing off her voice, dance moves, and a hot body. In 2010, she switched modes and embarked on an acting career, starring as Angie in the movie Preacher’s Kid (2010), followed by the part of Amanda in Killers (2010) with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. On the little screen, the 5’7” dark-haired diva landed the role of Alison Myers in the HBO series Treme from 2011-2012, then joined the cast of GMC TV’s For Richer or Poorer as Kya from 2012-2013. LeToya also played Felicia Price on VH1 series Single Ladies from 2014-2015, Tina in HBO series Ballers in 2015, and Tawnya in FOX’s primetime series Rosewood from 2016-2017. There was also her role as Rochelle Cross in the OWN series Greenleaf from 2017-2020, and Leah Franklin-Dupont in another FOX show, Our Kind of People from 2021-2022. So, yeah. Destiny’s Child who?
