Review

Les miserables (1998) is another adaption of the bread-stealing, revolutionary France novel by Victor Hugo, this time starring Liam Neeson as Jean Valjean, the Frenchman imprisoned for stealing the aforementioned bread, who flees from a police officer, played by Geoffrey Rush, and finds himself in the middle of the student uprising It’s a long book, and a love move, about two and a half hours. There are few films we can sit through at length and almost all of them rated X. And while it looks great, how can the filmmakers breath new life into this classic, that has seen dozens of screen and stage productions? Well, nudity would help, but they don’t go there, even with the inclusion of Uma Thurman in the cast. She looks hot, even in a sick-bed scene, but there’s sadly no skin. That’s just miserable.
