Life is a Bed of Roses (1983)

Three intertwined tales revolve around the French forest of Ardennes in the oddball comedy La vie est un roman (1983). In the early 20th Century, Count Forbeck (Ruggero Raimondi) reveals his plan to build a magnificent castle in tribute to his ladylove Livia (Fanny Ardant). When the First World War breaks out, Livia instead marries Raoul (André Dussollier), an army officer, but the couple returns for the castle's housewarming party where they are implored to drink a “happiness potion”. Livia refuses, but watches as the guests attempt to be reborn as new people in perfect harmony. In the 1980s the castle has been converted into a progressive school that is being torn apart by ideological disputes. The children of the school tell a story set in legendary times, about the son of a king who grows up to slay a dragon, rescue a maiden, and initiate a reign of love and happiness.Elisabeth Rousseau gets nude for this quirky film playing an earnest schoolmistress in modern times.
