Popular culture of 1979 was post-hippie, but not quite yuppie; post-disco, but not quite New Wave; and post-Star-Wars, but not quite completely infantilized by Steven Spielberg.
At local theaters (which were not quite all multiplexes—yet), Hollywood continued to present movies for adults: mature stories for grown-up people featuring adult themes, adult story lines, and that most quintessentially adult artistic flourish—nudity.
With home video still a few years in the future, grindhouses and drive-ins surged toward a crescendo, showcasing an explosion of exploitation that was also patently adult but not, to be sure, mature.
Let’s look now at some of our favorite nude scenes from 1979—eleven, in total, in honor of the rating Dudley Moore actually awards to Bo Derek in the movie 10.
It’s the Case of the Naked Knockers.
Those who grew up in the '70s and '80s remember the never-too-shy-to-get-naked Pamela Sue Martin from her roles in The Poseidon Adventure, Dynasty, and, of course, as Nancy Drew in The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries from 1977-1978.
The younger generation may have spotted Pamela in episodes of That '70s Show and The L Word.
In 1978 she did a pictorial for Playboy called “Nancy Drew Undraped,” and the next year she undraped herself again alongside porn icon Kitten Natividad in The Lady in Red.
But just like in some spellbinding Nancy Drew mystery, a new clue has been unearthed!

The team that brought a singular brand of high-impact, kitchen-sink lunacy to the film comedy with Kentucky Fried Movie perfected their 10-jokes-a-minute art form with the disaster spoof Airplane!, which was released as a Special Edition DVD on this date in 2000.
And just as Kentucky Fried Movie buoyantly incorporated triple-Z-cup B-movie jug-goddess Uschi Digard, Airplane! boasts a faceless cameo by another mountain-mammaried Russ Meyer vixen.
