Filipino beauty Hazel Espinosa continues her ascent from workaday actress to sex goddess in the erotic drama Kamay ni Eva (1999). A melancholy tale with a stinging social critique, Cesar Evangelista's film tells of a downtrodden young woman (Espinosa) who, because of circumstances beyond her control, is put in a humiliating position as a masseuse-cum-prostitute. As lecherous men try to take advantage of poor Marlene, she puts her head down and barrels through. At some point, however, she does succumb to temptation--how else to explain her stripping down and giving male customers the ride of a lifetime?
