Biography

Jane Wyatt is a Jersey girl, born in Campgaw, and an American acting icon. Starting with her film debut, One More River (1934), the petite actress became a darling of the black-and-white movie screen. But it was her turn as Sondra in Frank Campra’s revered fantasy, Lost Horizon (1937), where she really made a splash. The nubile beauty sliced through lagoon waters, then climbed on shore naked as a jaybird, revealing a from-a-distance perfectly proportioned backside. Though on the tamer side by today’s skin standards, it was quite (gasp!) eye-opening for the era, and really established the ingenue as a Hollywood player, leading to starring roles in such cinematic greats as None But the Lonely Heart (1944), Boomerang! (1947), and Gentleman’s Agreement (1947). In the 1950s, Jane was blacklisted for liberal sentiments, and wound up turning to television assignments, leading to her iconic role as Margaret Anderson in the series Father Knows Best, which ran from 1954-1960, and earned the actress three Primetime Emmys—along with quite possibly the first MILF title. Although she did a few movies after that, she largely stuck with TV, including an appearance as Amanda, the human mother of Vulcan Spock in the Star Trek series, and again in the movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986). She retired after a final television appearance on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles in 1992, and focused on charity work in her retirement. She passed at age 96 from natural causes in her Bel-Air, California home, leaving behind a legendary career and remembered beauty.
