Intolerable Cruelty (2003)

No Nudity

Review

Slickster lawyer George Clooney has met his match in gold-digger divorce-seeker Catherine Zeta-Jones in Intolerable Cruelty (2003), Joel and Ethan Coen's zingy black comedy. George beats Cath but good in court with his famously airtight pre-nup—"They spent an entire semester on it at Harvard Law," he says. He leaves quite fond of himself but also mighty impressed with Cath's voluptuous, delicious ruthlessness. And he hasn't seen the last of her, either, because she's bent on getting revenge! As the two swap insults and mount reciprocal swindles, they begin to swap glances too, and it's obvious that this quarrelsome twosome is heading toward swapping spit. Sharp-edged and silly, Intolerable Cruelty is a throwback to the screwball urges of Howard Hawks and Preston Sturges.
