Jeff Garlin's I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With (2006) is the story of depressed actor and Second City cast member James—played by Jeff himself—and his attempts to rescue himself from serious sadsackery. Overweight and living with ma (Mina Kolb), Jeff cheats on his diet nearly every night, chowing down snack cakes and milk while stretched out on the hood of his car outside Wrigley Field. His girlfriend (Rebecca Sage Allen) dumps him, he leaves his job on a sleazy reality show, his agent drops him, and he doesn't get the role he was born to play—the title character in a remake of Marty (1955), one of his favorite films. Into Jeff's life drift a passel of fabbo actors, including Bonnie Hunt, Amy Sedaris, Dan Castellaneta, Wallace Langham, Roger Bart, Paul Mazursky, David Pasquesi, Joey Slotnick, and Sarah Silverman as the sexually aggressive, somewhat nutso ice-cream-parlor girl who may or may not be the cure for Jeff's ills. "Every fifteen or twenty times out of the gate, a Second City sketch will end, not on a punch line, but on a moment of quiet insight and sympathy," wrote Roger Ebert. "I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With, a virtual reunion of Second City actors, is a comedy made from such moments. It is a minor movie, but a big-time minor movie, if you see what I mean. It celebrates its modesty, it becomes our friend, we're surprisingly touched by it even though it doesn't rock us. If there is such a thing as a must-see three-star movie, here it is."
