I Dream of Jeannie

No Nudity

Review

Undoubtedly one of the most popular comedy series of the mid-sixties, I Dream of Jeannie ran successfully for five years and 139 episodes before finally being cancelled in 1970. Aside from Barbara Eden, whose sympathetic portrayal of the title character earned her two Golden Globe nominations, it is well worth viewing to see the future “J.R. Ewing” Larry Hagman in one of his few sympathetic turns. The story opens with the astronaut Tony Nelson (Hagman) performing an emergency landing of his spacecraft on a deserted island. There he stumbles upon a strange bottle that turns out to be the home, but also the trap, of the genie Jeannie (Eden) who is so happy about finally being released that she promises Nelson to serve him from now on. In terms of nudity, forget it. Barbara Eden wore rather skimpy outfits throughout (by 1960’s standards) but never actually came close to on-screen nakedness. Check out the 1978 flick Harper Valley P.T.A. if you want to see 44-year-old Babs in a bra.
