I Am Curious (Yellow) (1967)

In the 1990s Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Piesiewicz wowed critics with his Three Colours trilogy, otherwise known as Three Colours: Blue (1993) starring Juliette Binoche, Three Colours: White (1994) starring Julie Delpy, and Three Colours: Red (1994) starring Irène Jacob. These psychological dramas were linked together by the colors of the French flag. Maybe Piesiewicz was influenced by Vilgot Sjöman who chose the colors of Sweden’s flag for his erotic dramas I Am Curious (Yellow) (1967) and I Am Curious (Blue) (1968). This once incendiary, now historic slice of Swedish sixties life follows the exploits of young, full-bodied, fuller-breasted Lena Nyman as she compiles info on anyone and everyone she comes across — and come she does! Peppering the proceedings is some, like, totally heavy stuff, man, the first flick involves the cast and crew as they comment on the state of the world and the actual movie at hand. These fourth-wall-bending bits may have been as revolutionary as all of the full frontal nudity. Speaking of the latter, Yellow was delayed from U.S. distribution due to obscenity charges. But since then we get to view the nude ingénue’s bare breasts, bush and butt 40 minutes into the flick. Two minutes later, the naked babe shows off her mams and muff while laying in bed with a bloke. If that’s not arousing enough, Lena reveals her three Bs as her dude goes down on her. Luckily, she returns the favor. So, that’s why Ms. Nyman was named Best Actress at the Guldbagge Awards!
