In Bayonne New Jersey, 1987, Debby (Thurman) is so unlucky in love, and unhappy at her data-entry job, that she suffers temporary (hysterical) blindness from the stress. Her best friend (Lewis) and mother (Rowlands) help her through. Uma won a Golden Globe for her performance.
