A jaded ex-husband peels out of town and into mortal danger in the taut and effective B-thriller Highway Hitcher (1998). Alternately titled The Pass, Kurt Voss’s film tells of a down-on-his luck businessman whose gambling problem causes his wife to leave him. En route to Reno to squander more cash, the card shark picks up a grizzled hitchhiker with a murky alibi. As it turns out, the hitcher’s a wanted serial killer who’s about to take the gambler on the ride of a lifetime. I’m sure our hero would prefer if co-star Elizabeth Peña could give him that ride--the buxom beauty looks absolutely killer in her revealing acting turn.
