Decades before The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) became an American hit, Brits were digging Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush (1968). And that doesn’t even count the smash success it had on saucy Aussies’ spank banks. Indeed, this flick was the 14th most popular pic at the down under box office. Based on Hunter Davies’s same-named novel of 1965, the racy romp comically chronicles the mishaps of Jamie McGregor (Barry Evans), a testosterone-addled mod male who is desperate to lose his virginity. Like Steve Carell’s Andy Stitzer who tries to seduce Nicky (Leslie Mann) and Beth (Elizabeth Banks) before landing Trish (Catherine Keener), McGregor tries to McPegger Paula (Sheila White), Caroline Beauchamp (Angela Scoular), Linda (Adrienne Posta), and his dream gal Mary Gloucester (Judy Geeson). Ms. Geeson is Mr. Skin’s wet dream girl since she can be seen skinny-dipping at the 01:23-minute mark. Thanks to the sexy scene, we are treated to views of Judy’s nude booty. If that’s not arousing enough, we also can glance at her bare breasts. Needless to say, the naked babe will make a splash in your pants! Obviously, London in the fab 1960s wouldn’t have been anywhere near so groovy if trendsetting films of the era hadn’t launched a fad among England’s most pleasingly glandular gals who bopped about braless. Hip, happening, and propelled by a rollicking Brit pop soundtrack, Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush offers the sounds and sights of a simpler Swinging Sixties time that just might give you a good vibration!
