After having weathered the initial disappointment at realizing Haggard: The Movie (2003) is not, in fact, a biographical take on the revered Bakersfield bad boy, singer Merle Haggard, country-music fans will quickly warm to the universal cheatin' heart theme and low-rent realization of this Handi-cam epic of lost love and enduring obsession. Peopled with skateboard prodigies and the broads and boneheads who hang around them, Haggard would more accurately be subtitled: The Home Video. Amateurish, churlish, and devilishly inspired, let this documentation of a straying sweet cheeks serve as a warning to two-timing tarts everywhere: Some creep friend of your boyfriend is watching everything you do--through a viewfinder.
