Considered the most beautiful woman who ever lived by the Guinness Book of World Records, Swedish-born stunner Greta Garbo began her Hollywood career with silent films such as the romantic dramas Torrent, Flesh and the Devil (both in 1926) and Love (1927). Audiences first heard her husky accented voice in the pre-code tragedy Anna Christie (1930). Her defining role as the titular seductive spy Mata Hari (1931) was a big hit—perhaps because Garbo’s body double flashed “her” ass in it! Yet it’s Greta’s breast that pops out of her dress in her highest grossing flick Grand Hotel (1932). No wonder it won the Oscar for Best Picture! Although the skintastic actress is all covered up by period costumes in the historic epic Queen Christina (1933), she’s still arousing when she smooches Elizabeth Young. After playing ill-fated heroines Anna Karenina (1935) and Camille (1936), the alluring icon lightened things up with the rom-com Ninotchka (1939), for which she won an Academy Award! Once the 1930s ended, Garbo withdrew from acting and the spotlight. Before she passed away in 1990, she earned a reputation for being reclusive. Indeed, she was known for saying, “I vont to be alone.” Like her contemporary Marlene Dietrich, Greta had several lesbian affairs. Just thinking of that may make you vont to be alone for a few minutes. By 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Garbo fifth on its list of the greatest female stars of classic Hollywood cinema. Yet we think of Greta as a perfect 10!
