When this year’s Academy Award nominations were announced last month, Mr. Skin posted a playlist of some of the finest female nominees. Now, with the 2017 Oscar ceremonies arriving Sunday, it’s time for Sleuth to uncover the choicest of those choices.

And while it’s the 89th Academy presentation, Sleuth has been ‘at it’ for three decades … having coined the term “Anatomy Awards” for his fifth ever issue back in 1987 … and producing an even dozen “Statue•esque” titles overall. The first and the last make bookends for the broadcast at hand.

And Jimmy Kimmel deserves a hand for landing the hosting gig—gee, it wouldn’t have anything to do with the telecast being on the same ABC network as his show?—though we hope he’s wise enough to offer better cracks than he did before!

The Academy caught criticism the past two years for its lack of diversity in the nominees, with the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite trending and unending. Sleuth’s view is that if one is going to complain that a particular performer has been “snubbed,” then isn’t it incumbent upon the protester to identify whom they’d exclude to open a slot for the choice they’ve got … since only five compose each category? We always hear who should be nominated—but rarely if ever who shouldn’t.

Which is a cop out … and we all know Sleuth prefers a pop out every time!

The diversity discussion seems diminished this year—there are other things to worry about—and fully fortypercent of the female acting nominations went to black women: 1 of the 5 Best Actress contenders …

… and 3 in the Best Supporting Actress field!

All were well deserved, and indeed to these eyes, there were more worthy and wonderful movies eligible this season than any in recent memory.

And speaking of memory, this seems a fine time for Sleuth to open his mammary banks to locate some of the most revealing shots of the terrific ten who have a shot come Sunday. In costume … and out!

As ever, pushing the envelope. Please
