Flashdance (1983)

A true icon of the 1980's, Flashdance (1983) made Jennifer Beals a household name as the Pittsburgh welder who moonlights as a stripper, but wants to be a ballet dancer. That means she can bring home the bacon, and be more than nimble when you pork her! Yes, Jennifer Beals is Alex Owens, a steel worker and self taught dancer who spends her nights dancing at a cabaret with a bunch of other dreamers hoping to hit it big, like her figure skating best bud Jeanie (Sunny Johnson). She's scared to apply to ballet school, since she has no formal training, but eventually lands an audition thanks to her new boyfriend and boss at the mill, Nick (Michael Nouri). Will her street honed dance training impress the stodgy ballet crowd? Yes. Will Save the Last Dance (2001) steal this ending eighteen years later? Also yes. But in fairness, this one was so huge in the 80's it would be hard for it to not have inspired all sorts of other stuff. From the Oscar winning theme song to the huge hit song "Maniac" to the legendary water bucket dance and the often replicated off the shoulder sweater look, nearly everything about the flick inspired some element of pop culture. But one of the big secrets of the movie was that Jennifer used a couple of boogie body doubles for the dance scenes. Marine Jahan was one of them, so it's her ass in a thong we see during a few songs. That's not to say we don't get plenty of looks at the reals deals Beals in a bunch of leotard shots, as well. But the stuff that will have you dancing with yourself, you know, doing the five knuckle shuffle, is the nudity from Alex's stripper buddies, played by Sunny Johnson and Monique Gabrielle. Both of them let their pair hit the air, performing as strippers in the club. They flash, as they dance, now we get it! What a feeling... there is in our pants!
