Biography

Tall, blonde, and beautiful, Eva Renzi is the stuff Bond girls are made of—but that’s one role she actually turned down, reportedly telling the powers that be, “Bond pictures are good for pretty girls but not for actresses.” Still, her gorgeous vibe combined with actual acting talent helped make her a star not only in her native Berlin, but also in Hollywood, France, Italy, and England. The mother of German superstar Anouschka Renzi, Eva started her career as a stage actress, making her debut in 1961 at the age of 17. In 1965, director Will Tremper became so infatuated with the starlet, he wrote the movie That Woman (1966), aka Playgirl, specifically for her. The German press fell in love with her, as did the rest of the world, and her career skyrocketed. It probably didn’t hurt that she went topless in the flick, introducing her tiny tatas to the public at large. To US audiences, she was Samantha Steel in Funeral in Berlin (1966) with Michael Caine and directed by Guy Hamilton, who famously directed multiple James Bond films; also of note: Eva’s voice was dubbed, since she couldn’t speak English without an accent. She played Alison Duguesne in The Pink Jungle (1968) with James Garner and George Kennedy; and The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) written and directed by notable Italian Dario Argento—a movie she says she later regretted; and took on the role of Toni Hayden in the TV series Primus from 1971-1972. Taking a break, with only a few roles here and there, she eventually made a career revival as Jenny in the French TV series Papa Poule from 1980-1982, the French film The Prodigal Daughter (1981), German movie Manuel (1984), the German TV movie Friedenspolka (1987), and the role of Edith von Meerungen in the German television series Das Erbe der Guidenburgs in 1987, followed by walk-on roles in multiple other German TV shows. Eva passed away in 2005 due to lung cancer, at the age of 60.
