So what do you do when your workplace, a humble record store with a good natured boss, a few hotties behind the counter and pretty much no rules at all, allows you to close one night? If you’re not a ridiculous movie character, you close up the store. You may well find a franchise agreement that is about to turn your work-home into one of a chain of up-market retail rat-traps but you don’t necessarily let this go to your head and make you do something stupid. That is, unless you’re in Empire Records, where said employee, "Lucas" (Rory Cochrane) decides he must save the day, swipe the day’s takings and let it all ride on the craps table in Atlantic City. AND in terms of nudity! I mean, come on, if you’re going to roll out Renee Zellweger wearing nothing but black panties and an apron, at least have the balls to take it a step further! Zellwegs pulls a similar ‘nearly but not quite’ stunt in Love and a .45 and there’s little doubt she has the ’come hither’ leer that can pop up a trouser tent like nobody’s business. Similarly, Liv Tyler comes nowhere close to naked in this film but she’s just so darned cute that you barely care. In fact, her legs wide, sweater riding high pose on the poster makes it worthy of ownership in itself. In one scene, Liv attempts to offer herself to her rock idol, Rex Manning and if it weren’t for the fact that her dad is the front-man for Aerosmith, it might be an easier one to watch. But then, there’s something a little creepy nearly everything Liv Tyler has ever appeared in, so best just enjoy her ‘daddy’s little girl’ ways as best you can.
