From its opening new-wave synth beats to its being hosted on occasion by mainstream Swedish sex siren Britt Ekland to its lengthy, graphic clips from then-contemporary Golden Age of Hardcore porn classics, the pay-TV magazine series Electric Blue is very much an embodiment of early-'80s erotica . . . so much so, in fact, that the show has become timeless. Each installment explored what was turning the world on during the birth of the home-video era—be it rare celebrity skin footage, Jell-O wrestling, X-rated premieres, or the sensationally arousing aspects of aerobic exercise classes—in much the same cornucopia fashion that, a few channels over, the USA Network's Night Flight applied to rock culture. No sex documentary series, before or since, ever proved to be such an eclectic, Electric turn-on.
