Review

Defiance (1980) was a starring vehicle for Jan-Michael Vincent, a sentence that simultaneously tells you everything you need to know about the film as well as helping you set your expectations at an appropriate level. JMV plays Tommy, an out of work seaman who takes up residence in the dangerous New York City neighborhood while awaiting his next assignment. Sick of the powerfully violent control of the neighborhood exercised by a gang called The Souls, Tommy encourages his neighbors to stand up to this gang, and soon finds himself leading the charge in a "take back the neighborhood" effort. Plus, he's holding a baseball bat on the poster, how badass is that? As a matter of fact, the film's only con is that there's no nudity, which is doubly disappointing because the film was made in an era rife with PG nudity. Either way, we do get some sexy shots of Theresa Saldana in a sexy, somewhat see-through nightgown! Too bad JMV spent so much time cleaning up the neighborhood and hardly any time sexing Theresa up!
