Review

The phrase “good things come in small packages” applies to short films. It began with the Georges Méliès adventure A Trip to the Moon (1902). Later, the animated short Steamboat Willie (1927) put Disney on the map, while arthouse critics were wowed by Luis Buñuel’s surreal French short Un Chien Andalou (1929). And before Martin Scorsese made a name for himself with the masterpieces Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980) and Goodfellas (1990), he previewed his talent in the short film The Big Shave (1967). Similarly, Chris Marker’s quick sci-fi flick La Jetee (1962) influenced the Ridley Scott classic Blade Runner (1982) as well as Terry Gilliam’s feature films Brazil (1985) and 12 Monkeys (1995). More recently, Andre Saraiva threw his director’s hat (we’re guessing it’s a beret) into the short film arena with Deadliest Catch (2013). Of course, this brief pic should not be confused with the Discovery Channel’s long-running reality series of the same name. Sure, they both feature bearded dudes in nautical wear sailing the high seas, but the creature caught in this short is far more appealing than your average salmon. Indeed, the catch of the day is Camille Rowe! The French model is pulled from the water completely naked and remains that way as she’s hung on a hook and displayed like the prize specimen she is. As such, she bares her chest shells, clam and halibutt! The blonde even remains naked while joining the guys for a beer at the bar afterwards. Anybody else craving tuna?
