Dark Shadows

Combine an uncommonly well written soap opera with a joyously moody horror movie, and the result is Dark Shadows, the epitome of ‘cult series’ if ever there was one. (I suppose it was only natural that one quality TV show would be borne from the popularity of The Munsters and The Addams Family.) Those familiar with the exploits of Anne Rice’s Lestat character will certainly enjoy the adventures of Barnabas Collins, a tortured vampire anti-hero who spends his days battling foes from the underworld while enagaging in all sorts of soap opera shenanigans. Boasting an amazing run of over 1,200 and one of the most impressive ensembles ever gathered for ‘daytime TV’, Dark Shadows remains the template for successful TV horror…to say nothing of its status as one of the best soaps ever.
