Pop megastar Britney Spears makes the leap to the silver screen with the pastel-hued star vehicle Crossroads (2002). The onetime mouseketeer stars as Lucy Wagner, the squeaky-clean daughter of a blue-collar single dad (Dan Aykroyd) holding down fort in rural Georgia. The perennial good girl keeps her nose buried in her science textbooks and resists all sexual overtures from her desperate boyfriend but begins to open up just a bit on a cross-country drive with a male musician friend (Anson Mount). Sadly Tamra Davis’s film is aimed squarely at the pre-teen girls with Britney posters over their beds, not the men who want to believe the singer when she insists she’s “not that innocent.” The pop diva does very little to shed her good-girl image, although she manages to look as scorching as ever in her lacy lingerie.
