Contempt (1963)

Great Nudity!

Review

We have no contempt for Contempt (1963) since it stars skinematic sexpot Brigitte Bardot. Believe it or not, the blonde goddess wasn’t the first choice from producer Carlo Ponti and French director Jean-Luc Godard. American bombshell Kim Novak and Italian eyefuls Sophia Loren and Monica Vitti were considered before Ms. Bardot stepped in. Based on Alberto Moravia’s 1954 novel “Il disprezzo” (which translates to “A Ghost at Noon”), the foreign flick follows a French playwright named Paul Javal (Michel Piccoli) who travels with his wife Camille (Bardot) to work on a movie in Rome and Capri. In true New Wave Film fashion, famed German director Fritz Lang portrays himself and Godard plays Lang’s assistant director. But when Paul lets American producer Jeremy Prokosch (played by actor Jack Palance) drive his arousing spouse home, Camille wonders if her hubby is using her to help him get ahead in his career. As a result, she tells Paul she no longer loves him. Needess to say, there’s more drama going on between husband and wife than in the film within this film. If that’s not intense enough, a car accident takes the lives of Prokosch and Camille. In other words, Ms. Bardot’s character is drop dead gorgeous — literally! No wonder Sight & Sound magazine ranked Contempt as one of 100 greatest films of all time. The movie also includes Giorgia Moll, Linda Veras, and Brigitte’s skin. In addition to donning skimpy ensembles, the sex kitten shows off her best ASSets — her nude booty!
