Circle of Friends (1995)

It's 1957 and a Circle of Friends (1995) from a small town in Ireland have reunited at Trinity College in Dublin. Saffron Burrows is the oldest, so she's been there a year and has already got her eye firmly set on a guy—he's Colin Firth, and she's hoping he'll hoist her up into the economic heights. Geraldine O'Rawe and Minnie Driver are the two Trinity newbies of the trio; Geraldine's taken a sheen to a guy named Aidan, while Minnie's stuck commuting back and forth from tinytown to Dublin and thinking she'll never have a shot at love. That's because she's the clique's schlub; her friends treat her like she's not on their lovely level. But the last laugh is Minnie's because she—not the skinnies—wins the heart of hotshot rugby guy Chris O'Donnell, and in the process she finds out who her real friends are.
