Few figures from the Golden Age of Porn are more central and more controversial than Chuck Traynor. The cousin of the original Jay from the group Jay and the Americans, Traynor began acted in sexploitation movies like Joe Sarno’s Odd Triangle and Karla in the late 1960s.
From 1971 to 1974, Traynor was married to the original porn star and epitome of porn chic Linda Lovelace, whom he allegedly talked into entering the world of porn, first doing loops like the infamous Dog-Fucker and ultimately starring in the hardcore classic Deep Throat in 1972.
Lovelace later accused Traynor of having coerced her into doing the movies with threats and abuse. Traynor denied these accusations in an interview with Screw editor Al Goldstein on a 1987 episode of his public access cable show Midnight Blue.
While he was married to Lovelace, Traynor received a blowjob from “The Candyman,” legendary entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. Like many celebrities (including Jackie Onassis) Sammy was fascinated with Deep Throat and wanted to learn Linda’s fellatio technique.
After his marriage to Lovelace broke up, Traynor became the manager/husband of yet another porn starlet from a 1972 X-rated blockbuster, Marilyn Chambers, star of the Mitchell brothers’ Behind the Green Door. Traynor and Chabers stayed together from 1975 to 1985.
Coincidentally, 1985 was also the year that notorious British power electronics group Whitehouse released the song “I’m Coming Up Your Ass,” which opens with the line “This song is dedicated to Chuck Traynor!”
