...Or at least she plays one in the movies! Variety is reporting that Charlotte Gainsbourg has just been confirmed for the lead role in Lars von Trier's next project, Nymphomaniac.
The project is still in its earliest stages, so details are slim, but Indiewire reports that the movie will be divided into eight chapters, each showing episodes in "the erotic life of woman through the age of fifty," and will be filmed in both softcore (for mainstream distribution) and hardcore (presumably for DVD) versions.
Von Trier has produced porno in the past (1998's Constance), and some of his flicks (namely The Idiots, 1998) have featured hardcore sex, and he shows no signs of taking it easy on this one. As he told EW:
“As a cultural radical I can’t make a film about the sexual evolution of a woman from zero to 50 without showing penetration. I know it’s something very European.”
Talk about an understatement! For her part, Charlotte has gone fully nude on screen before (like in von Trier's Antichrist, 2009- above), and she hasn't said whether she'll go hardcore for Nymphomaniac. But even if she uses a body double for the XXX scenes, we're pretty much guaranteed Gainsbourg: A Heroic Snatch in this one.
