Director Tamra Davis serves up a This Is Spinal Tap (1984) for the hip-hop set with CB4 (1993), a side-splittingly funny “rapumentary” about an up-and-coming crew on a quest for fame, hos, and bling. A fresh-faced Chris Rock stars as MC Gusto, the leader of a hard-as-nails hip-hop squad called Cell Block 4. Rocketing up the charts on the strength of their gangsta credentials, foul-mouthed lyrics, and intimidating stage presence, Gusto and cohorts Stab Master Arson (Deezer D) and Dead Mike (Allen Payne) have fun living large, until the pressures of stardom begin to rival what they saw behind bars. One thing they definitely missed out on on the block, however, are the lithe feminine curves of dancer Khandi Alexander, who enlists a body double to handle the real hot-and-heavy stuff.
