Inspired by the 1941 Andrews Sisters hit Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Christina Aguilera gives feel-good pop a very modern brush-up with Candyman (2006). Conceived by the Pittsburgh native and her producer, Linda Perry, as the showpiece for her Back to Basics album, Candyman boasts a swingin’ jazz beat and lifts a sample from a classic military cadence. Best of all, Aguilera makes like Betty Grable and Rita Hayworth in a Campari-fueled music video, infusing the proceedings with WWII-era pin-up pizzazz.
