Bridget Loves Bernie

Odd couple sitcoms are hardly the stuff of originality, but give credit where it’s due to this short-lived series, it brought religion into the mix before All in the Family was even a thought in a writer’s head. White-bread Bridget (Meredith Baxter) and white-collar cabbie Bernie (David Birney) meet, fall in love (despite one being Catholic and one being Jewish), and eventually marry. Though they don’t doubt their love for each other, the couple is constantly strained by parents, friends, and social expectations. Though when I say constantly, I really mean constantly – co-stars Baxter and Birney got married in real life too.
